Scary Halloween Cupcake Decorations

The resurgence of the delicate little cupcake over recent years has brought an interest in cupcake decoration which is far more fanciful than just adding icing and a scattering of sprinkles. And what better time than Halloween for anyone to use their imagination and skills to come up with some imaginative scary cupcake decorations?

graduation party decorations

Would Halloween feel right without the spiders, bats, ghosts and witches of folklore...? To start the ball rolling here are a couple of ideas that are easy to put together but effective -- scary spider and bat attack.

PARTY DECORATIONS

What you will need for these decorations are cupcakes made with your favorite recipe, butter cream icing, a few large black jelly beans, licorice bootlace, licorice strap and food coloring in red and orange, plus white decorating gel. The quantities will depend on how many scary cupcakes you plan to decorate.

To make scary spider cupcakes prepare your cupcake top with butter cream colored with red food coloring. In the center of the cupcake place a large jelly bean for the spider body. Cut a further jelly bean in half and place the cut side facing down at one end of the body. This will be the head. Add a couple of dabs of white decorating gel to form eyes. With licorice bootlace cut eight pieces to form the legs. Rather than placing the licorice flat on the cupcake try arching each leg from the body to form a little half loop. This will make the spider look as though it is ready for action rather than having been squashed on the top.

For bat attack cupcake decoration ice the cupcake with orange colored butter cream. Place a black jellybean in the center. Cut licorice straps to form the wings of the bat by scalloping one side of the strap and rounding one end of the other side for wing tips. Place this on either side of the jelly bean. With the white decorating gel, dot two eyes at one end of the jelly bean. Make a couple of fluffy clouds with the decorating gel.

Let your imagination run wild both with ingredients for decorations and with the designs -- why not let your scary Halloween cupcakes form a table centerpiece? Ask the kids for their ideas and make it a fun family affair. Cupcake decorations work well for the kid in all of us, young and old, and Halloween is a good time to let the child in us out for a bit of fun.

Cupcake Pinata - Easy Step by Step Instructions

Cupcake themed birthday parties are beloved for small children so why not make a cupcake pinata in the colours that match your decorations? development it is lots of fun and easy to make - the whole family can help.

yo gabba gabba party decorations

Follow my instructions on development a cupcake piñata. It doesn't take long to make, however, you must allow a incorporate of days for it to dry. I would advise beginning to make the pinata about a week before it's needed. You can decorate the pinata as naturally or as creatively as you want.

YO GABBA GABBA PARTY DECORATIONS

The first time I made a pinata, I coated it in about 12 layers of newspaper. The children could not break it. We ended up getting out the golf clubs. I was worried the circular saw would be arrival out next! Although you want it strong you only need about 4-5 layers of newspaper to make a very sturdy pinata.

All you need: 2 cups flour 3 cups water Newspaper Colored crepe paper String Balloon Small rubbish bin

I like to use a small rubbish bin as the base of my cupcake. I cover it in plastic wrap so that the papier-mache can indeed be taken off when dry (and you don't ruin the rubbish bin!). If you don't have a convenient rubbish bin, you could use a cake tin, or anyone that is the size you want. If you don't have anyone convenient use cardboard to make the cylinder and use newspaper across the bottom.

Mix the flour and water together until it makes a level paste.

Tear the newspaper into long 1 inch wide strips and dip into the flour/water mixture. Thought about place the strips on the base until it is covered. You need to add about 4 layers of paper - you want it strong enough that everybody gets to have at least one turn at hitting it at the party!

Set aside and let dry.

Blow up a large balloon until it fits neatly into the top of the base. Cover the top half of the balloon with newspaper and let dry.

When dry, take off papier-mache from the base and take off plastic wrap, if used. Pop and take off the balloon and tape the balloon to the cupcake base. Use scrunched up paper to form a "cherry" on top.

Make a "U" shaped incision in the top as you will use this later to add candies, toys etc.

Punch 2 small holes in the top near the chance and thread a large piece of string straight through the two holes.

Paint with different designs and colors, or cover in crepe paper. When I use crepe paper, I like to cut the paper into squares about 2 inches square, scrunch them up and glue to the piñata.

Fill straight through the flap you left at the top, with candy, toys, or any other fun surprises.

Tie your pinata in the air with the string and have fun!
