The Fresh Beat Band - Nick Jrs Popular Show

Nick Jr. and Sprout have the best shows for kids. The Wiggles and Yo Gabba Gabba are probably my daughter's favorites, but she just discovered The Fresh Beat Band, and now that has taken all precedence. Her exact words were, "I like this show because of the music, and I like Kiki. She looks like me." She doesn't really look like Kiki, but in her eyes if she does because of the same hair color, so be it. I think it's awesome that she can relate to a character on television who is a positive role model.

For those of you who are not familiar with The Fresh Beat Band, it is a show about four teens named Kiki, Marina, Twist, and Shout who go to music school together. They all play musical instruments, and they know how to get your kids moving with their dancing. In each episode, they encounter a problem but they work together to find a solution. During the process of it all, they sing pop songs and dance. The lyrics are catchy and easy to follow, and it's just a fun and educational show to watch. It might not teach your child the alphabet or the colors like Mickey Mouse or Sesame Street, but it does reinforce teamwork and being active.

YO GABBA GABBA

It's geared towards preschoolers, but I know some of my older nephews and nieces who are in grade school follow them. If they're all together in one house, and I turn on The Fresh Beat Band, they will start running to the toy bin to grab an instrument like the guitar, microphone, or drums. It's also a show where parents won't get easily annoyed. I can attest to this because I find myself humming along to the songs. It beats watching SpongeBob or Dora! Nick Jr. has also had famous guests featured in some of the episodes. In the "Band in a Jam" episode, pop star Ne-Yo performed his famous song "One in a Million" as well as the opening theme to The Fresh Beat Band.

The Fresh Beat Band are played by actors who really do play the musical instruments that their character plays. It's not fake acting. Kiki, played by Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer, can play the guitar and violin. Twist's main interest, played by Jon Beavers, is hip-hop and is the DJ, rapper, and beat boxer in the show. Marina, played by Tara Perry (formerly Shayna Rose) can play the drums. Lastly, Shout, played by Thomas Hobbson can play the piano. It's great to know the four bandmates are all musically talented in real life.

What would be great to see is if The Fresh Beat Band will go on tour. Yo Gabba Gabba is touring in my hometown this year, and so I'm hoping Nick Jr. will have The FBB go on tour as well. I think the young kids and their older siblings will equally be excited especially because the majority of the actors are still in their 20s. They will be able to relate to actual people performing instead of costumed characters. How awesome would it be to have famous singers collaborate with them too just like Ne-Yo did.

Birthday Theme - Top Three Most Popular Party Themes For Children

Birthdays are one of the most important days of the year for children, and it's important to make sure they have a very special day. For all those parents whose children can't decide on their theme, here are some popular ideas that may help.

yo gabba gabba shoes

Pirate Theme: This may be the most popular theme among children. It really opens the birthday party to a wide variety of games, such as treasure hunts or pirates vs. civilians type games. Impress the kids by adding dry ice to the punch, causing it to bubble and smoke. There are also plenty of cheap costumes for purchase that add some extra flair to your birthday party. Eye patches, hooks, pirate hats, and parrots can be a great addition and are easy to find at relatively low costs. Other items that will help create the great pirate setting include gold coins, treasure maps, treasure chests, pirate ships and flags, and skulls. Top it off with a treasure chest birthday cake or a pirate skull cake and you're party is bound to be a hit. Princess Theme: In one form or another, the princess theme is the most widely used theme for a young girl's birthday party. Simply ask your child about her favorite princess and there is bound to be mounds of party supplies that will fit your needs. Current favorites include Tiana from Princess and the Frog, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Tinkerbell from Peter Pan, and Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Costumes are once again easy to create. Tell all the girls to bring their favorite princess dress and supply them with tiaras and jewelry. Then help them apply a little bit of makeup and they will all feel like princesses in no time. If you really want to impress them (and don't mind putting in the effort), decorate your car like a carriage and take them for a ride for ice cream. The options are really endless. Firefighter Theme: For some reason or another, boys absolutely fall in love with firefighters. Because of this, party stores have really focused on keeping firefighter items in stock, including fire truck plates, fire hydrant streamers, and the typical plates, napkins, party bags, invitations, etc. all with firefighter images. Costumes are easily created with the use of long rain jackets (the best colors would be red, yellow, or black), boots, and fireman caps. Make simple fire hydrants out of red or yellow cardboard stock and put up streamers of flames running across the room. You can send them on missions to put out "fires" (please don't start real fires) around the house with clever instructions. Let them feel like they saved the day and everyone will go back home feeling like a hero. These three parties work great for a lot of people, but the most important part of party planning is to make sure your child has the theme they want. Take the time to plan things out with them, and let their imaginations run wild. Chances are that they have ideas that never would have popped in your mind.
